- Wegovy, introduced in the UK in 2023, is a weekly injection designed for weight loss. Like Ozempic, Wegovy contains semaglutide as its active component—a hormone known to regulate appetite, thereby curbing calorie consumption. By imitating this hormone, Wegovy aids in fostering safe and efficient weight reduction.
Who can use it?
- Wegovy can be prescribed to adults over 18 with a BMI over 30.
- It is also available for adults with a BMI over 27 who have weight-related health conditions such as:
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Type 2 diabetes
Do not use Wegovy® if:
- you or any of your family have ever had a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
- you have had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide or any of the ingredients in Wegovy®

How to use it?
Prior to using your Wegovy pen, ensure you have the following items to maintain cleanliness at the injection site:
- A gauze pad or cotton wool
- An alcohol swab or soap and water
When prepared, follow these steps:
- Remove the pen cap from your Wegovy pen.
- Clean the chosen injection area thoroughly.
- Inject into one of the following areas:
- Stomach
- Thigh
- Upper arm
- Post-injection, apply gauze or cotton wool to the site and apply pressure if necessary.
